Advil contains Ibuprofen as an active constituent, used to relieve pain, inflammation, and fever.  This is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Advil is also used for the management of arthritis, migraine, headache, Dental pain, sprains and strains, menstrual (period) pain, and pain after surgical operation. Advil reduces pain and inflammation.

How does it work?

Advil (Ibuprofen) works by prohibiting the action of chemicals known as Cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes. This enzyme helps to make prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins are produced at the site of injury or damage and cause pain and inflammation. By blocking the effect of COX enzymes, it decreases prostaglandin formation to reduce pain and inflammation.

  • Do not use this drug if you have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding disorder.
  • Do not use this drug if you have high blood pressure.

What are the drug interactions of Advil?

You should not use following drugs while administering this medication: Cidofovir, Ketorolac, Methotrexate, Pemetrexed, Etodolac, Firocoxib, Meloxicam, Carprofen, Deracoxib, Firocoxib, Tepoxalin, Lithium, Methotrexate, Warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven, and Prednisone

How to store Advil?

Store Advil at room temperature 20 to 30oC; Keep this drug away from heat and sunlight. Do not store this drug at moisture place.

How to use Advil?

Advil is marketed in 200mg tablet dosage form. This medication is used orally with a full glass of water. You can take this medicine with food or milk to lessen stomach upset. Take this medicine each day at same time.

Missed dose of Advil: If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule.

Overdose of Advil: In case you overdose, consult the doctor as soon as possible for treatment.

What are the side effects of Advil?

Common side effects of Advil: Stomachache, heartburn, dizziness, rash, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, ringing in the ears.

Serious Side Effects of Advil: Liver failure or inflammation of the liver, Low platelet count, Blood in the urine, Urinary tract infection.
