Aziderm cream is a topical preparation which is used for the treatment of Acne by controlling the development of pimples, spots, whiteheads and blackheads. It is widely used for the treatment of mild-to-moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris and to reduce the number of inflamed skin lesions. Mostly acne is found in the neck but sometimes it also affects the back, neck, and chest. Acne is prevalent mostly in young individuals. There is Sebaceous gland present under the skin that produces oil to maintain smooth skin. Acne occurs due to obstruction in these pores.

Mechanism of action of Aziderm cream:

The active constituent of Aziderm cream is Azelaic acid which belongs to a class of drug called naturally occurring saturated Dicarboxylic acids. It shows the antimicrobial effect by inhibiting protein synthesis of bacteria. It also works to normalize keratine process and decreasing microcomedo formation to improve acne vulgaris. Keratin is a natural substance that can cause acne.

What are the contraindications of Aziderm cream?

If you have any of the following clinical conditions, consult the doctor before using this cream:

  • You should not use this cream if you are allergic to any ingredient in Aziderm cream.
  • Do not use this cream if you previously had any dental surgery.
  • If you are asthmatic patient and have cold sores then do not use this drug.
  • You should not use this cream if you have any allergic reaction to the skin.

What are the drug interactions of Aziderm cream?

  • You should inform your doctor before using this cream if you are using any other medications.
  • Avoid using any herbal products, vitamins, and dietary supplements while using this cream.

How to store Aziderm cream?

Aziderm cream should be kept at room temperature 25 to 30oC. Keep this drug away from heat and sunlight.

Method of application of Aziderm cream:

Aziderm cream is available as 20% w/w. Before application of this cream wash your hand and face properly. You should not dry your face with a cloth. Wait for some time to dry.  Now take sufficient amount of cream by using your finger and softly rub it on the affected area until it entirely distributes. Wash your hand as soon as possible after using this cream. 

Overdose of Aziderm cream:

Do not use more amount of cream as it can shows harmful effect. In the case of overdose, consult the doctor as soon as possible for a medical checkup.

What are the side effects of Aziderm cream?

You can face some side effects while using this cream: stinging, dryness; temporary burning, itching, rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; redness, or tingling at the application site, tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, and face.

What are the precautions of using Aziderm cream?

  • Do not cover your face or affected area after application of the drug.
  • You should avoid food or liquid that can cause you redness, flushing, and blushing.
  • This drug should not be used by breast feeding mother and pregnant women as it can be harmful to the baby. 
  • This is a topical preparation so do not use this cream via another route.
