Gengraf is an orally administered drug which is used as an immunosuppressant in the case of kidney, liver, and heart transplants. It is also used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis in certain patients. It suppresses the immune system. Gengraf is prescribed along with other medications.

How it Gengraf works?

Gengraf is a potent immunosuppressive agent. The active constituent of Gengraf is Cyclosporine which works by binding to cyclophilin complex. The complex then inhibits calcineurin which is usually responsible for activating transcription of interleukin 2. Cyclosporine inhibits lymphokine production and interleukin release.

What are the contraindications of Gengraf?

  • You should not use this if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances.
  • This drug is strictly prohibited if you have liver and kidney disease.
  • Do not use this drug if you have brain and other nervous disorder.
  • Do not use this drug if you have gout or high blood uric acid levels; low blood magnesium or cholesterol levels.
  • You should not use this drug if you have high blood potassium levels or your diet contains a lot of potassium.

What are the drug interactions of Gengraf?

Avoid use of following drugs while administering Gengraf.

Acyclovir, Allopurinol; Amiodarone; Angiotensin; Benazepril, Captopril, Enalapril, Fosinopril, Lisinopril, Moexipril, Perindopril, Quinapril, Ramipril, Trandolapril; Candesartan, Eprosartan ,Irbesartan, Losartan, Olmesartan, Telmisartan, Valsartan; Fluconazole, Itraconazole; Azithromycin; Bromocriptine; Diltiazem, Nicardipine, Fluvastatin, Lovastatin, Pravastatin, Simvastatin; Clarithromycin; Dalfopristin, Danazol; Digoxin, Amiloride, Spironolactone, and Triamterene; Erythromycin.

How to store Gengraf?

Store this drug at room temperature 20 to 30oC. Keep this drug away from direct sunlight.

How to use Gengraf?

The recommended dose of Gengraf is 25mg. Administer this drug orally with a full glass of water. You can administer this drug with or without food. Administer this drug each day at same time.

Missed dose of Gengraf:

You should not miss the dose of Gengraf even if you feel well. Try not to miss any dose. In case you missed the dose then administer as soon as possible. If time is near to next dose, skip the missed dose and take regular one.

Overdose of Gengraf:

You should not administer two doses at one time as it can cause an overdose. In the case of overdose consult doctor as soon as possible or go nearby hospital.

What are the side effects of Gengraf?

Some common side effects includes: headache; increased hair growth; acne; dizziness; flushing;  a mild cough; mild diarrhea; nausea; a runny nose; sleeplessness; stomach discomfort; and vomiting.

What are the precautions of Gengraf?

  • You should not use grapefruit juice while administering this drug.
  • Do not use this drug if you are pregnant and breastfeeding.
  • You should not use this drug if you are taking nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, and dietary supplement.
  • You should not consume alcohol while administering this drug.
